IAM Case Study: Global Education / Research Institution
The Challenge
This education institution had a large CIAM infrastructure deployment provided by Ping Identity, hosted in a private cloud within their existing infrastructure. They were in the middle of hardware refreshes estimated in the millions of dollars and decided to move their infrastructure to a public cloud provider (AWS) to support their dynamic business needs and save money on internal infrastructure costs.
The Solution
IDMWORKS worked with the customer to evaluate current development, testing, and deployment practices for their Ping Identity infrastructure in their private cloud, and developed an integrated set of tools, processes, and pipelines to automatically deploy and scale in their preferred cloud provider (AWS). This included cloud automation for components:
- Ping Directory, Federate, Access, & Authorize
- Supporting custom applications
- Required AWS services and components (CloudWatch, ECS/EKS, Load Balancing, CloudFront)
The Results
Through the tooling and DevSecOps processes development, an AWS native cloud deployment process was developed to support their dynamic needs. This resulted in the capability to ‘Fire and Forget’ deployments across multiple AWS environments and scale their infrastructure based on dynamic business needs. Additionally, they were able to realize capital cost savings given they did not have to refresh their internal hardware needs and by utilized scaling capabilities of their cloud provider.
